Foster Family Qualifications

Experience in caring for children is a definite advantage for a family thinking about fostering. You may still apply to foster even if you have no experience, as long as you have a basic understanding of children’s needs and have a willingness to learn. A love of young people, optimism, patience, a good sense of humour and consistency are all essential attributes of successful foster families.

Foster Care Recruitment

Resource workers locate appropriate placements for children coming into care. Staff in this department have specific expertise in finding placements for children in certain age groups and by type of placement.
They also recruit and provide ongoing support and training to alternative care providers.
