Nicole Armstrong

Nicole was elected to the Board of Directors on May 30, 2007. She currently holds the office of Secretary/Treasurer for the Board. Nicole is a CGA and works as a Controller in the manufacturing sector.

Paul Bartu

Paul was elected to the Board of Directors on June 17, 2009. Paul spent his career working primarily with the Deaf community, serving as Principal and Program Director at the Milton EC Drury School for the Deaf. Before retiring, he also served as Superintendent of Provincial Schools for the Deaf. Paul has been an active volunteer serving ten years on the Board of the Canadian Hearing Society. Retirement has not seen Paul slow down, as he is kept busy with church activities, as well as care-giving to his grandchild during the week.

Rob Burton

Rob was elected to the Board of Directors on June 16, 2010. Rob is currently the Mayor of the Town of Oakville. He has a keen interest in environmental issues and has served on a number of organizations challenging the urbanization of our green spaces. He will be effective in assisting the Board with government relations and advocacy.

Siobhan Byron

Siobhan was elected to the Board of Directors on June 16, 2010. Siobhan is President of Forsythe Technology Canada (FTC), a leading IT infrastructure solutions provider; as well as Director of the FTC Board. Siobhan has an MBA from the University of Liverpool and is a certified project manager (PMP).

Brad Cook

Brad was elected to the Board of Directors on June 16, 2010. Brad works with the Halton Regional Police in the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit (CASA) and is supportive of, and an advocate for, the Children’s Aid Society through his many years of policing.

Steve Cranna

Steve was elected to the Board of Directors on June 16, 2010. Steve is a foster parent with the Halton Children’s Aid Society and Vice President of the Foster Parents Association. Steve is Director of Business Development and Government Relations in the durable medical equipment sector. He is very knowledgeable in government relations and lobbying with health issues and has served on a number of Boards.

Phil Grimes

Phil was elected to the Board of Directors on May 25, 2011. He previously served on the Board of Directors from 2000 to 2009. Phil works in the financial service industry, is a strong advocate for the work that the Halton Children’s Aid Society does and is a tireless fundraiser to enhance the lives of our children, youth and families.

Meredith Kirkland-Burke

Meredith was elected to the Board of Directors on June 16, 2010. She has a wealth of experience in the child welfare field, having worked as a social worker for fourteen years. Meredith has spent the last eleven years working in the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Program at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

Justin Mastrangelo

Justin was elected to the Board of Directors on June 15, 2011. He is a Chartered Accountant and Tax Manager with Deloitte and Touche LLP in Burlington. Justin has been a resident of the Halton region his entire life and currently resides in Milton, ON. Justin has been actively involved in various community fundraising events, councils and teams, as well as coaching youth on various sports teams in the community.

Steven Parfeniuk

Steven was elected to the Board of Directors on June 15, 2011. He is Vice President, Finance and Administration with Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning and was previously Superintendent of Business and Treasurer with the Halton District School Board. Steven has previous Board experience having served on the Thunder Bay Regional Arts Council, the Halton Learning Foundation and the Centre for Skills Development and Training.

Lynn Smurthwaite-Murphy

Lynn was elected to the Board of Directors on September 24, 2008. She is currently employed in the information technology sector as Senior Vice President, North America for her company. Lynn’s work takes her travelling throughout North America.

Cecilia Taylor-Clare

Cecilia was elected to the Board of Directors on June 17, 2009. Cecilia has worked in the Child Welfare field for over 20 years, including as project leader at the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS). She holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work and has served in a number of appointed roles including vice chair of the Ontario Child and Family Services Review Board, and the Custody Review Board, and as a member of the Ontario License Appeal Tribunal.

Joe Trovato

Joe was elected to the Board of Directors on October 24, 2007. He currently holds the office of Vice President of the Board of Directors. Joe is an adoptive parent and currently works as a Psychoeducational Consultant. Previously, Joe was on secondment to help establish the new Ministry of Children and Youth Services, and then worked as Senior Policy Advisor to the Minister.

Scott Waterhouse

Scott was elected to the Board of Directors on April 25, 2007. He currently holds the office of President. Scott is Director, Global Workplace Policy and Labour Relations for one of Canada’s largest financial services companies. Previously, he practiced employment and labour law with a national law firm and remains a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He has volunteer experience working with children in Junior Achievement and the United Way.
